“Let’s start at the beginning, a very good place to start!” – Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music (1965)
Well, as an American expat in Austria, we had to get the first Sound of Music reference out of the way early, now, didn’t we? Might as well cross that bridge before I build up anyone’s expectations in my (famously lacking) level of restraint! When Maria teaches the Von Trapp children the building blocks of music, she starts with the basics. I too, am returning to the basics, back to the beginning, specifically to the craft of writing.
To be honest, calling this a “beginning” is also a bit of a misnomer, as I’ve always been a writer. However, I’ve never written for me.
So then, this introductory blog post is a rededication to a long smoldering passion of mine. I will encourage my spark, fan it into flame, and feed it with new experiences and expressions of spirit.
Will you join me? Pull up a seat to the hearth, sink in, and stay a while.
